Community Service is essential, no only to the application to the FII, but to your entire environment. We receive many calls about the community service requirement, so we would like to offer some suggestions on how to fulfill the requirement.


Here are some suggestions:

Join your local synagogue, Jewish community center, Hillel chapter, etc. Contact the Rabbi or other organization leaders and discuss how you can serve the community.


Other volunteer opportunities include working with the elderly, assisting Rabbis with conducting services on Shabbat and holidays, teaching Hebrew to children, and working with children with disabilities. It is important to remember that you are acting as ambassadors for the State of Israel and your service to the Jewish community is important and reflects how people think about Israel.


Community service must be performed each semester and documented by letters from a Rabbi or community leader, verifying the type of service. We have received photographs and DVDs from students in support of their service.




GENERAL INFORMATION



Dear Israeli Student,

Thank you for your interest in Florida and our scholarship program for Israeli students, the only program of its kind in the United States. Twenty-five full time scholarships are allocated each semester. Unused credits will be awarded to runner-ups in the application process.


The schedule of application windows is as follows:


Fall Term:

Application Window: April 15-June 15

Award Notification Date: July 15


Spring Term:

Application Window: August 15-October 15

Award Notification Date: November 15


Summer Term:

Application Window: February 15-April 15

Award Notification Date: May 15

Student applications are different for new students who have never applied to the Florida Israel Institute before, versus returning students who have previously submitted an application. Returning Student Applications do not require copies of passport, F-1 visa, or IDF service to be submitted.
